Lance McLain
Lance McLain is Board Certified in Estate Planning and Probate Law and is a partner at the law firm of Farner & Perrin, L.L.P. He focuses his practice on family wealth transfers and minimizing gift and estate taxes. His foundational structures include Wills and revocable trusts, as appropriate. He is well versed in various employee benefits and IRA taxation and commits time to guiding his clients to properly coordinate these important assets with the overall plan.
Mr. McLain regularly employs specialized trusts (such as Intentionally Defective Grantor Trusts and Spousal Limited Access Trusts) and family limited partnerships/LLCs in his clients’ planning. He also has particular expertise with respect to special needs trusts and is a Certified Elder Law Attorney. Handling sophisticated probate matters, including related estate tax return filings and trust funding, is also an important part of his practice.
He has a genuine concern for his clients, and his mission is to fit his clients’ objectives with an estate plan that is pragmatic and understandable. He recognizes that this area of legal practice is about people and families as much as it is about taxes, and he takes the time to practically counsel his clients in stewarding their resources.
Mr. McLain holds an LL.M. in taxation from the University of Alabama School of Law, has a J.D. from South Texas College of Law Houston, and a B.A. from Texas Christian University in accounting and finance.
Mr. McLain is a native Houstonian and enjoys being outdoors on a run, bike, or catching a swim. He and his wife cheer on the Astros and Liverpool FC whenever they have the opportunity.
